When people ask me what the most challenging part of starting my own business has been, they always seem surprised by my answer.
“Believing in myself.”
It’s not easy. Putting yourself out there is hard. What I’ve realized, though, is that the way I experience this journey depends almost entirely on my thoughts.
We tend to think that our thoughts are a result of our experiences. We believe that the things we have no control over can and will take control of us. The happiest people are the ones that realize it’s actually the other way around. Our experiences are a result of our thoughts.
No, we do not have control over the external world. We do, however, have control over our perspective and how we interpret our experiences. If we do not take control of our thoughts, our thoughts will take control of us.
This, by no means, is anything I have mastered. It is, however, something that has changed my life and I continue to practice it daily. I want nothing more than to be free from the suffering we so negligently put upon ourselves.
When I hear the words of self doubt or fear inside my head, I make it a point to correct them. Positive affirmations give us the only control we are actually capable of having.
These three affirmations are ones I use when I find my mind traveling to the past - reliving bad moments, or thinking towards the future in fear. I practice positive thinking daily, and use affirmations such as these to control my mindset and my emotions.
While I use many different affirmations depending on the day, I always make it a point to focus on the present. We all have a different reality. If you’re not happy with yours, you owe it to yourself to change that.
